The Redside Foundation supports the health and strength of the professional guiding community across Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, and Colorado, and they are expanding that work into Cody and the Bighorn Basin. The foundation was created in memory of Telly Evans, a longtime Idaho river guide who passed in 2010. The work runs on a clear-eyed recognition of what guiding actually asks of people: seasonal instability, physical and psychological risk, healthcare access gaps, and long stretches of isolation.
Redside's 24/7 Guide Helpline connects any guide to a licensed therapist who understands the work and the lifestyle, typically for eight confidential sessions at no cost. The organization also offers financial health coaching, six professional development grants and five scholarships each year, and a range of community-building programs and physical health resources. Since 2014, Redside has supported more than 23,000 counseling sessions.
The evening will include a short film, an overview of resources, and a chance to talk with the people doing the work. Open to any working guide or outfitter, anyone who works alongside the community, and anyone who wants to understand what local guides carry and where they can turn for support.
Every Thursday at Pint Night, we offer complimentary beer or non-alcoholic beverages to anyone with a Sunlight pint glass. Don't have one yet? You can purchase a limited-edition glass at the event. 100% of proceeds go directly to one of our five local nonprofit partners that get kids outside.
